EAGLE, Colo. (AP) - Last month, Kobe Bryant's lawyers suggested racism could be behind his prosecution because sheriff's deputies had accepted T-shirts depicting the NBA star being hanged. Now the defense team has brought up race for the first time in open court, a move some legal observers believe is part of an ongoing strategy.
Defense attorney Pamela Mackey said during a motions hearing Friday that there is a long history of white women falsely accusing black men of rape. The statement echoed an argument made in court filings last week.
