Officer Charged in Accidental Shooting of Girlfriend's Sister

NEW YORK (AP) _ An off-duty rookie police officer who allegedly accidentally shot and wounded his girlfriend's 18-year-old sister has been arrested on charges of assault, criminal tampering and filing a false report, police said. Police Officer Jeffrey Rivera, assigned to the 70th Precinct in Brooklyn, allegedly disassembled his gun after the shooting and told police it had gone off while he was cleaning it, while witnesses reportedly said he had taken out the gun to show it to people.
