A former Dakota Ridge High School teacher accused of sexual assault first denied having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student but eventually admitted to the relationship, a Jefferson County Sheriff's Office investigator testified last week.
After law enforcement officers testified, the former teacher, 35-year-old Kevin Ponis, was bound over for arraignment Aug. 16 where he's expected to enter a plea. Jeffco Judge Roy Olsen decided there's probable cause on 10 counts including sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, pattern of sexual assault on a child and sexual exploitation of a child.
